Kino Lorber has released the U.S. trailer for Lav Diaz’s Golden Lion winner The Woman Who Left (Ang Babaeng Humayo), the slow-burn drama about a woman serving 30 years in prison for a crime she did not commit.
This black-and-white film is loosely based on Leo Tolstoy’s God Sees the Truth, But Waits, “a short story about a Russian merchant who is arrested and charged with murder while on a business trip and spends 26 years in a Siberian jail before meeting and finally forgiving the real culprit. The Woman, however, kicks off where Tolstoy’s tale comes to a close.”
The 73rd Venice International Film Festival came to a close on Saturday night with their annual awards ceremony.
Lav Diaz‘s Filipino drama The Woman Who Left took home the Golden Lion, while Tom Ford’s noir Nocturnal Animals stole the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize,
