20th Century Fox‘s War for the Planet of the Apes brought in an estimated $56.5 million from 4,022 locations at the domestic box office this weekend. That was enough to take down Spider-Man: Homecoming at the North American box office.
Fox has released the final War for the Planet of the Apes trailer, teasing the showdown between Andy Serkis’ Caesar and Woody Harrelson‘s character.
Directed by the returning Matt Reeves from a screenplay he wrote with Mark Bomback, the anticipated sequel also stars Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Amiah Miller, Judy Greer, and Terry Notary.

Director Matt Reeves revealed that War for the Planet of the Apes (“for”, not “of”? Damn it! I meant “of”. Hmm. I like it.) filming has begun, posting the first photo from the set to his Twitter account this weekend.
The filmmaker also confirmed that Dawn of the Planet of the Apes composer Michael Giacchino will return to craft the score for the sequel,
