Takashi Miike to Direct Kimutaku-Starring ‘Blade of the Immortal’

Live-Action Adaptation Of Manga

The prolific Japanese director Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer) will helm a live-action adaptation of Hiroaki Samura’s long-running manga ‘Blade of the Immortal,’ published from June 25, 1993, to December 25, 2012.

Takuya Kimura (Space Battleship Yamato) a.k.a. Kimutaku, a member of the pop group SMAP, will play the lead character Manji, a Tokugawa-era samurai who is cursed with an immortality touch and has to kill 1,000 evil people to lift a curse and regain his mortality.

‘Blade of the Immortal’ is published in North America by Dark Horse Comics. which plans to rerelease it in omnibus form. The manga’s 30 volumes won the Eisner Award for Best U.S. Edition of Foreign Material in 2000. The neo period drama manga saw a mediocre television anime adaptation by Studio Bee Train in 2008.

Live-Action Adaptation
The 2017’s film will start production in November 2015. I have a great expectation of kimutaku. Miike is in his element here. This should be good.
