Test Footage from DEADPOOL Movie Starring Ryan Reynolds [UPDATED]

Test footage for a potential Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds as the “Merc with a Mouth” has been released online.

VFX artist and director Tim Miller filmed some test footage for this comic book movie back in 2012, featuring Ryan Reynolds, but it never landed online…until now.

Pretty heavily  CGI’d footage is likely some sort of test reel for a film and even though Deadpool is fully masked, it’s clearly Reynold’s voice behind the character.

Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the script, and despite fan demand the long-gestating project has never gotten the official green light.

Yeah, it may well prove to be that this leaked on purpose to test the waters and gauge public reaction. Fox – who own the Deadpool rights as part of their X-Men deal – can expect a positive reaction. Not a bad strategy since this is a risky investment and they are concerned i won’t sell.

Whatever the case may be, watch the CG clip which works a little bit like a trailer, introducing Deadpool and providing his unique, often smartass approach to fighting crime.

“I am a pool of death.” Haha, very Deadpool!

UPDATE: The footage was shot three years ago by Blur Studios. Deadpool originator Rob Liefeld explained:

Fox had released a relatively small budget for Tim to present his vision of the script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Tim is a master of the short film format, his Star Wars shorts and trailers for their video games are outstanding. The digital costume over Ryan Reynold’s motion capture (Mo-Cap) performance was an approach they wanted to explore and they had a relatively small window to create this short so they opted to “test” the look of a digital Deadpool costume over Ryan.I’m quite pleased at how it turned out, especially considering Baraka-Deadpool from Wolverine Origins.

Below you can see Ryan Reynolds on set, in “costume” in a Deadpool test behind the scenes shot, twitted by co-writer Reese:
