Weekend Box Office: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Ropes in $92 Million Debut


The superhero sequel managed to impress with its estimated $92 million domestic debut with an expected $23.4M today.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swung to an easy win at theaters this weekend and made a significant improvement over the 2012 launch of The Amazing Spider-Man reboot, though it couldn’t match the original, which bowed to $115 million in 2002.

It was a solid opening for Sony’s Columbia Pictures movie, which took in an estimated $116 million internationally for a foreign total of $277 million.

Last week’s No. 1, the female revenge comedy The Other Woman dropped to second place, taking in $14.2 million. The film has done $47.3 million in 10 days.

The Christian drama Heaven is for Real took third with $8.7 million in its third outing for a total $65.6 million, followed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier with $7.8 million. The Disney and Marvel tentpole hit nearly $680 million in global ticket sales.

Fox’s animated comedy Rio 2 rounded out the top five with $7.6 million for a domestic total of $106.4 million.
