‘The Beguiled’: New Trailer for Sofia Coppola’s Gothic Thriller
Focus Features has released a new trailer for Sofia Coppola‘s new southern gothic thriller The Beguiled, which boasts an exceptional cast that includes Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, and Elle Fanning.
Oona Laurence, Angourie Rice, Emma Howard, Addison Riecke co-star. While a Beguiled film already exists, Coppola’s screenplay adaptation of Thomas Cullinan’s novel of the same name looks more twisted and seductive than 1971’s version by Don Siegel starring Clint Eastwood.
The Beguiled will premiere in-competition at the Cannes Film Festival next month and opens in limited release June 23 before expanding a week later. You can watch the second official trailer below, but if you’re new to this story do yourself a favor and skip it. Because the trailer sort of tells you the whole story.
“The Beguiled” is an atmospheric thriller from acclaimed writer/director Sofia Coppola. The story unfolds during the Civil War, at a Southern girls’ boarding school. Its sheltered young women take in an injured enemy soldier. As they provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries, and taboos are broken in an unexpected turn of events.
