THE DROP Trailer

Tom-Hardy-in-The-Drop

Michaël R. Roskam‘s The Drop aka Animal Resque marks, unfortunately, the final screen appearance by James Gandolfini. The crime thriller stars Tom Hardy as Gandolfini’s onscreen nephew.

Coming from Dennis Lehane (Gone Baby Gone) the film seems to be  in a similar vein as Killing Them Softly, which also starred the late Gandolfini as an alcoholic, borderline-suicidal character Mickey (“I was drinking before you got out of your father’s c*ck. Don’t tell me what I do.”)

The Drop  co-stars Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts, John Ortiz, Ann Dowd, and James Frecheville, and Fox Searchlight is set to release the film on September 19th.

The trailer seems to show too much footage, so you might want to watch only the first half.

THE DROP is a new crime drama from Michaël R. Roskam, the Academy Award-nominated director of BULLHEAD. Based on a screenplay from Dennis Lehane (MYSTIC RIVER, GONE BABY GONE), THE DROP follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Tom Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (James Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.
