The First Trailer for Breakout Sundance Hit THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL

Breakout SUndance Hit

The first trailer for one of the breakout hits at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the coming of age dramedy The Diary of a Teenage Girl, dropped today on Yahoo.

Based on Phoebe Gloeckner’s novel of the same name, the film stars Bel Powley (a veteran of UK TV) as a teenager growing up in 1970s San Francisco who loses her virginity with her mother’s (Kristen Wiig) boyfriend (Alexander Skarsgard), and her life only gets more complicated from there.

Directed by newcomer Marielle Heller with appearances by Christopher Meloni, Margarita Levieva, Madeline Waters and Abby Wait, Sony Pictures Classics has The Diary of a Teenage Girl in theaters August 7. You can check out the first trailer right here.

Like most teenage girls, Minnie Goetze (Powley) is longing for love, acceptance and a sense of purpose in the world. Minnie begins a complex love affair with her mother’s (Wiig) boyfriend, “the handsomest man in the world,” Monroe Rutherford (Skarsgard). What follows is a sharp, funny and provocative account of one girl’s sexual and artistic awakening, without judgment.
