Super Bowl Spot

Universal Pictures has unveiled the reboot-esque title: Jason Bourne for the fifth iteration in the Bourne franchise and brought online the Super Bowl spot which aired tonight during the game.

Matt Damon returns as the formerly amnesiac super-spy character as well as director Paul Greengrass, who helmed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Penned by Damon, Greengrass and longtime Bourne editor Christopher Rouse, the new film picks up with Bourne “in a dark and tortured place.”

Julia Stiles also reprises her role in the series as Bourne’s BFF Nicky Parsons. Tommy Lee Jones and Scott Shepherd have also joined the cast as high-ranking CIA officers. Vincent Cassel plays the villain chasing after Bourne. The cast also includes Alicia Vikander, Riz Ahmed, and Ato Essandoh.

The film opens in theaters July 29th. Watch the Jason Bourne Super Bowl spot below, along with the teaser poster.

It doesn’t look like they’ve applied much of Greengrass’s usual visuals yet, but the footage looked pretty good. Bland movie title and poster though.

Starring Matt Damon

Matt Damon returns to his most iconic role in Jason Bourne. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, once again joins Damon for the next chapter of Universal Pictures’ Bourne franchise, which finds the CIA’s most lethal former operative drawn out of the shadows.

For Jason Bourne, Damon is joined by Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, while Julia Stiles reprises her role in the series. Frank Marshall again produces alongside Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, and Greengrass, Damon, Gregory Goodman and Ben Smith also produce. Based on characters created by Robert Ludlum, the film is written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse.
