THE JUNGLE BOOK Eyes Lupita Nyong’o, Scarlett Johansson

People magazine’s Most Beautiful Person for 2014 and recent Best Supporting Actress Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o has joined the mix with another top notch actress, Scarlett Johnansson, entering talks to join Idris Elba in Disney’s The Jungle Book.

A live-action/CG hybrid version of the Rudyard Kipling book has Iron Man director Jon Favreau at the helm and Nyong’o is in final negotiations to play Rakcha, the mother wolf who adopts Mowgli, while Johansson is in earlier talks to voice Kaa the python, the movie’s second villain after Shere Khan, the man-eating tiger being voiced by Elba.

The lead human role of Mowgli and his pals Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther are still to be cast.

The Jungle Book marks the first project that Nyong’o has committed to since winning the Oscar for her part in 12 Years a Slave.

Johansson, who is in the midst of a very hot streak, worked with Favreau twice before, in Iron Man 2 and the upcoming Chef.

The script was written by Justin Marks and production should begin soon.

The Jungle Book opens in theaters on October 29, 2015.
