‘The Last Word’ Trailer: Amanda Seyfried Writes Shirley MacLaine’s Obituary
Bleecker Street Media has released the first trailer for The Last Word, the upcoming comedy starring Amanda Seyfried and Shirley MacLaine as the two women who form an unlikely bond.
Seyfried plays the local newspaper’s obituary writer Anne Sherman who is tasked to write a piece about a retired businesswoman and notorious control freak Harriet (MacLaine) who hasn’t died yet.
Directed by Mark Pellington (Going All the Way) from the screenplay written by first-timer Stuart Ross Fink, the supporting cast includes newcomer AnnJewel Lee Dixon as a young African-American girl, Brenda, along with Anne Heche, Joel Murray, Philip Baker Hall and Seyfried’s fiancé, Thomas Sadowski.
The film will debut at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and hits theaters March 3. Check out The Last Word trailer, which promises laughs with some inevitable tears.
In THE LAST WORD, Shirley MacLaine is Harriet Lauler, a once successful businesswoman in tight control of every aspect of her life. As she reflects upon her accomplishments, she’s suddenly inspired to engage a young local writer, Anne Sherman (Amanda Seyfried), to pen her life’s story. When the initial result doesn’t meet Harriet’s high expectations, she sets out to reshape the way she is remembered, with Anne dragged along as an unwilling accomplice. As the journey unfolds, the two women develop a unique bond which alters not only Harriet’s legacy, but also Anne’s future.
