THE LEGO MOVIE Directors Return to Write Sequel

The Lego Movie writers and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are returning to write the sequel for Warner Bros. There’s still no word on whether or not they’ll return to helm The Lego Movie 2, but the duo is expected to pull a double duty as screenwriters as well as producers.

The studio has originally dated the follow up film for May 26, 2017, before announcing that The Lego Batman Movie will be released in 2017 with Chris McKay behind the lens. (McKay was originally attached to direct The Lego Movie 2.) As a result, The Lego Movie 2 has been pushed back from 2017 to 2018 with a Ninjago movie opening September 23, 2016 and to be directed by Charlie Bean.

Lord and Miller will serve as producers for the three upcoming LEGO pics.

Rumors have flown for a couple weeks that Chris Pratt will return for the sequel and Will Arnett will reprise his role for the solo Lego Batman Movie.

Smart move by Warners. But if the Lord/Miller team decide not to direct one of the future LEGO flicks, I like to see them direct the Power Rangers movie.

Ha, how cool is that?
