‘The Little Mermaid’: Chloe Moretz to Star in Universal’s Live-Action

Chloe Grace Moretz As Ariel

Variety reports that Chloe Grace Moretz (the Kick-Ass films) is set to star in Universal’s live-action The Little Mermaid film with Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral) in talks to pen the script.

Universal Pictures’ & Working Title’s adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale does not currently have a director, following the departure of Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) earlier this year.

The outlet says that Moretz had been the frontrunner all along (she’s also filming the Universal’s sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), but Coppola’s reluctance to go with a star like Moretz led to her leaving the project.

Curtis will polish The Little Mermaid script, which has already been worked on by Caroline Thompson, Kelly Marcel and Abi Morgan.

Moretz will next be seen in YA adaptation The 5th Wave on January 15, 2016, and has the indies November Criminals and Brain on Fire in the can.

Do you think that they made a good choice in their decision to hire Cloe Moretz as Ariel?
