‘The Rocketeer’ Sequel in the Works at Disney

Disney's Reboot-Sequel

Joe Johnston‘s classic The Rocketeer, based on a 1980s comic book, is getting a reboot/sequel from Disney, FilmCutting has learned. But this time it’ll “be headlined by a black female character.”

According to THR, the studio has hired Max Winkler and Matt Spicer to pen the script, Brigham Taylor, one of the producers on The Jungle Book live-action film, is also on board. You can check out a synopsis below.

Set six years after the original Rocketeer and after Secord has vanished while fighting the Nazis, an unlikely new hero emerges: a young African–American female pilot, who takes up the mantle of Rocketeer in an attempt to stop an ambitious and corrupt rocket scientist from stealing jetpack technology in what could prove to be a turning point in the Cold War.

Seems like it’s worth checking out, but you know people will react like “didn’t they learn their lesson from the Ghostbusters fiasco?”
