The Second STAR WARS Anthology Film Will Be Boba Fett Movie

Untitled Star Wars Anthology Project

Hot on the heels of Josh Trank‘s departure from the Star Wars spinoff Friday, sources have confirmed to The Wrap that the second Star Wars Anthology film will focus on the origin story of the fan-favorite bounty hunter Boba Fett.

It’s likely that the “Boba Fett origin story” will take place somewhere between 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones — where we met young Boba as an unaltered clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett who raised him as his son — and Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back. You’ll recall that Film Cutting totally guessed Boba Fett would get his own movie (although we failed to predict everything else).

The site claims that:”Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has been closely involved in the creative process for the second anthology film, which is set in a separate movie universe that is not associated with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” or upcoming Episodes VIII and IX.”

The new Anthology film is slated for release in 2018, following J.J. AbramsStar Wars: The Force Awakens this December 18, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One on December 16, 2016, and Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26, 2017.

Let’s hope Disney and Lucasfilm will find the director who can do it right, but I’ve just never quite got the whole Boba thing. I think the whole Fett family has already received too much attention, but if they really insist on the character, Joe Johnston wants to do it for years. He made Boba a singular character and I think he deserves to get the directing job.
