Annapurna Pictures has released the first trailer for Jacques Audiard’s upcoming dark western comedy The Sisters Brothers, starring John C. Reilly alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Riz Ahmed.

Based on Patrick Dewitt’s 2011 novel of the same name, Audiard’s follow-up to Dheepan is about siblings who hunt down a gold prospector. Audiard penned the script with longtime collaborator Thomas Bidegain. Rutger Hauer, Carol Kane, and Rebecca Root co-star.

The Sisters Brothers hits theaters in France on September 19 and the U.S. later this year – no exact date is announced. Watch the first trailer below.

Jacques Audiard-Directed Western Noir

Based on Patrick Dewitt’s acclaimed novel of the same name, follows two brothers – Eli and Charlie Sisters – who are hired to kill a prospector who has stolen from their boss. The story, a genre-hybrid with comedic elements, takes place in Oregon in 1851.
