So, as peak vacation season begins, it’s time for The Trip to Italy, the comedy sequel which debuted at Sundance earlier this year, starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon.

Following a 2010 culinary travelogue comedy The Trip, with Michael Winterbottom once again behind the camera, this looks like a fun return.

While the pair are still dropping their best imitations of various celebrities, there is also an undercurrent of sadness, with a bit more substantial drama at the core.

The Trip to Italy” TV series is already airing across the pond on BBC and IFC Films will bring the theatrical cut to cinemas sometime this year.

In the film, Coogan and Brydon play semifictionalized versions of themselves heading out on a new culinary road trip, retracing the steps of the Romantic poets’ grand tour of Italy and indulging in some sparkling banter and impersonation-offs. There they enjoy mouthwatering meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri while riffing on subjects as varied as Batman’s vocal register, the artistic merits of “Jagged Little Pill,” and the virtue of sequels.
