‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Adds a New Writer

Thor: Ragnarok New Screenwriter

Marvel Studios has added a new screenwriter to their upcoming Thor: Ragnarok. According to THR, the-up-and-coming scribe Stephany Folsom has signed on to rewrite the script for the third installment of the Thor series.

Previously, Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle, who wrote both Thor and Thor: The Dark World, have worked on the script – which was reportedly too dark for the studio.

What We Do in the Shadows helmer Taika Waititi signed on to direct back in October, and we also reported that Mark Ruffalo is coming back as a fan favorite character Hulk. It was also revealed that Chris Hemsworth (who plays Thor) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) are returning for Thor: Ragnarok wherein it isn’t known if Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Anthony Hopkins (Odin) and Idris Elba (Heimdall) are coming back to reprise their roles in the sequel.

Thor: Ragnarok is slated for release on November 3rd, 2017 and it would be interesting to see how this creative direction works out since the film was also recently confirmed to be a buddy pic. Just kidding, the first two movies killed my interest in a third.

Elsewhere, Folsom made her way onto the 2013 Black List of best unproduced sceenplays with 1969: A Space Odyssey or How Kubrick Learned to Stop Worrying and Land on the Moon. The Princess of North Sudan screenwriter (Folsom also scripted Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming film) is the newest female writer over at Marvel and joins Nicole Perlman from Guardians of the Galaxy and Meg LeFauve from Captain Marvel.
