Tom Hanks & Steven Spielberg May Reteam for Cold War Thriller

Yet another potential project to Steven Spielberg’s plate and it would reunite him with Saving Private Ryan‘s star Tom Hanks for an untitled Cold War thriller that is set up at Dreamworks.

If everything comes together right, Hanks will play James Donovan, a real life figure who was an attorney who went behind the Iron Curtain during the Cold War in order to negotiate the release of a U-2 pilot shot down and captured in Russia.

An up and coming writer Matt Charman penned the script.

Spielberg and Hanks previously teamed on Saving Private Ryan, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal, as well as producers for HBO’s Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Spielberg who dropped out of American Sniper last year has to make a decision which project will direct next, and now it seems to be a race between this one, the historical drama Montezuma and sci-fi actioner Robopocalypse.

Hanks is currently shooting a comedic drama A Hologram for the King, which is being directed by Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas).
