Tom Hardy Exits SUICIDE SQUAD; Jake Gyllenhaal Might Replace Him

Update: Now Cinemablend has reported that Warner Bros. has set its sights on Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal, one used to kill Walkers and has worked with David Ayer in his WWII drama, Fury, and the other recently went bald for Ridley Scott in Exodus: Gods and Kings.

Update: According to Variety, Jake Gyllenhaal has passed on the offer to play Rick Flagg in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad movie. The film doesn’t go into production until April, meaning the search for an A-List star to fill the role continues without rush.

Oops!…It seems that Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Tom Hardy just dropped out of the David Ayer-directed adaptation of DC Comics’ Suicide Squad.

Well, that’s the leading star of the movie and I wonder why. The Revenant going over schedule may be the cause of his departure.

Yeah, seems like he simply took too many projects. Stuff like that always happens and I’m sure Ayer will find somebody else great. The Wrap suggests that his End of Watch star Jake Gyllenhaal is already being eyed to fill the role of Rick Flag.

Warner Bros. has yet to comment, but comic book fans have been clamoring for Gyllenhaal to play a superhero for a while now, and Suicide Squad would certainly fulfill that. The Nightcrawler star was previously eyed to take over as Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man, but Tobey Maguire recovered from back pain in time to start filming. He has also been courted for Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which eventually went to Benedict Cumberbatch. The part of the Squad field leader would be his first ever comic book role.

Whether or not he fills Hardy’s shoes, Warner Bros. will release the villains-forced-to-be-heroes movie on Aug. 5, 2016. The film will star Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Update: I knew that cast was too good to be true. It just dropped in quality in my opinion, significantly brought down by Jai Courtney. I hope they are as concerned with writing a good script as they are with packing the film with as many top names as possible.

Update: The site also reckon they’ve confirmed the Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump) rumor, and the actor is getting involved, but not for the role of General Eiling or for Deathstroke either, as they hear the studio may want former “True Blood” wolfman Joe Manganiello for that role.

I like it…Bernthal all the way if this is true…also Magliano as Deathstroke…not sure about that…Cinemablend?…lmao
