Trailer for J.D. Salinger Movie ‘Coming Through the Rye’
Samuel Goldwyn Films have released a trailer for James Sadwith’s new drama Coming Through the Rye, the film based on his own experience with J.D. Salinger.
Coming Through the Rye stars Alex Wolff as a young teenager who’s obsessed with Salinger’s seminal novel “The Catcher in the Rye” who attempts to meet up with the reclusive author (played by Chris Cooper). The 16-year-old outcast meets young woman (Stefania Owen) along the way and the journey looks to largely mirror the one Holden Caulfield (the book’s main protagonist) found himself on.
Also starring Adrian Pasdar and Amy Parrish, it opens October 14th. Check out the trailer and poster below.
I feel like I’ve seen all this before… the title of the movie is Chasing Holden from like 13 years ago. It starred DJ Qualls as a kid who goes on a journey to retrace Holden Caulfield’s steps in the novel… just sayin’.
Based on the Emmy Award-winning filmmaker’s own true story, 16-year-old Jamie Schwartz (Alex Wolff) wants desperately to be a worldly adolescent. Unhappy at his all-boys boarding school, his life raft is the belief that he will someday play Holden Caulfield—the complex and alienated main character from the iconic novel The Catcher in the Rye—on Broadway and in the movies. He adapts the novel as a play and runs away to the mountains of New Hampshire to search for the book’s reclusive author, JD Salinger (Academy Award-winner Chris Cooper). Along the way he is picked up by a local girl, DeeDee Gorlin (Stefania Owen). Their odyssey and the events that follow are a journey into the meanings of friendship, sex, love, and loss.
