Trippy ‘The Forbidden Room’ Trailer

Celine Bonnier And Louis Negin

The first official trailer for Guy Maddin‘s new film The Forbidden Room has been released online. The trippy teaser for the movie is basically a long cast list, excerpting the film’s credits sequence.

The film, co-directed by Evan Johnson, stars Roy Dupuis, Clara Furey, Udo Kier, Mathieu Amalric, Charlotte Rampling, Geraldine Chaplin, Maria de Medeiros, Celine Bonnier, Victor Andres Turgeon-Trelles and Maddin’s longtime muse Louis Negin. This dreamlike movie marks a “nostalgic throwback to 1920s Expressionist Silent cinema mixed with a 1960s underground “camp” aesthetic.”

The Forbidden Room, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and will screen at the New York and Toronto Film Festivals coming up, opens in select theaters on October 7th. Watch below.

Maria De Medeiros

As potbellied, satin robe-clad Marv opens The Forbidden Room, he instructs us on the history and significance of bathing. One might never guess what’s in store from Canadian auteur’s Guy Maddin’s ode to the lost movies of the silent era, honoring classic cinema while electrocuting it with energy. Bursting with playful cacophony, Maddin’s opus takes us high into the air, under the sea, around the world, and into dreamscapes, spinning tales of amnesia, captivity, deception, and murder.
