Two AQUAMAN Scripts in Development at Warners

Following Zack Snyder’s brief defense of the DC Comics superhero Aquaman – who is believed to have a cameo in his upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a kickstarter for the Justice League franchise – it’s safe to say that the character is a big part of Warner Bros/DC Comics’ future.

The studio has reportedly hired screenwriters Will Beall (Gangster Squad) and Kurt Johnstad (300: Rise of an Empire) to write two separate scripts for the same project in the hopes of getting the best version. The solo Aquaman  movie will be one of the nine upcoming installments after Batman v Superman (scheduled between 2016 and 2020) that will help shape their DC Comics cinematic universe.

Warners have not confirmed this news at this time, nor will they confirm who is directing and which release date Aquaman may be getting. The first untitled DC Comics movie is hitting on August 5th, 2016, shortly after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuts on March 25th, 2016. Two more movies are set for June 23rd, 2017 and November 17th, 2017. Let’s give Aquaman a summer release.

Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has been rumored months ago to be making a cameo as Arthur Curry/Aquaman in Batman v Superman (all the evidence points to it being true) and he’ll likely reprise the role in this solo adventure. The studio has yet to confirm the casting too.

Gangster Squad and 300: Rise of an Empire were pretty awful and I’m not so optimistic, but I really hope they take their time and don’t mess this up. The DC cinematic universe is taking shape and WB is going to attempt to put out movies after the failure of Green Lantern.
