Universal Releases Official Synopsis for Tom Cruise’s ‘The Mummy’

Wallis And Cruise

Universal Pictures has unveiled the official synopsis for their upcoming reboot of The Mummy, which stars Tom Cruise as a military-type character.

The film’s synopsis reads as follows:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The film will also star Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance, with Russell Crowe reportedly in talks to play Dr. Jekyll-type character. I see it as being action/horror.

The first installment in Universal’s planned Monster Movies Cinematic Universe is currently in production in London. Their shared universe also includes The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, and Van Helsing, with Johnny Depp set to lead The Invisible Man and Angelina Jolie being courted for Bride of Frankenstein.

The Mummy is slated for release on June 9, 2017. Alex Kurtzman directs from a script penned by Jon Spaihts.
