‘Voyage of Time’ Trailer: Terrence Malick’s Doc Spans the Universe

Terrence Malick's Doc

Ahead of its release in Japan, a new trailer and poster for the 90-minute, Cate Blanchett-narrated version of Terrence Malick‘s documentary about the birth of the universe, have been released.

Subtitled Life’s Journey, the extended version of the 40-minute version of the movie (narrated by co-producer Brad Pitt and released in IMAX theaters on October 7th) is still awaiting a U.S. release date. The 35mm feature-length edition premiered at the Venice Film Festival and had its North American premiere at TIFF.

Voyage of Time marks the filmmaker’s first venture into the world of documentary storytelling and is essentially his version of the Godfrey Reggio’s 1982 experimental film Koyaanisqatsi (aka Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance). That doc was a nonfictional motion picture about the relationship between man and nature, and that’s what Malick seems to be going for here as he explores time, space and the cosmos.

“Voyage of Time, in the end, is a perhaps an aesthetic experience rather than an particularly informative one, prizing images over data; but what images they are.”(The Guardian)
