The Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki is back with The Other Side of Hope (Toivon tuolla puolen), the second installment in his trilogy focusing on port cities.
The Le Havre‘s follow-up tells the story of a poker-playing restauranteur and former travelling salesman Wikström (Sakari Kuosmanen) and a Syrian refugee Khaled (Sherwan Haji) crossing paths while the last attempts to seek asylum in Helsinski.
Written, directed and produced by Kaurismäki, and shot on 35mm film by Kaurismäki’s long time collaborator Timo Salminen, the movie will make its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in early February.
