Gabriele Muccino’s Sentimental Drama

Here’s the first international trailer for Gabriele Muccino’s (The Pursuit of Happyness) upcoming film, Fathers and Daughters, the generation-spanning sentimental drama that stars Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Aaron Paul, Bruce Greenwood, Diane Kruger, Jane Fonda, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer, Quvenzhane Wallis, and Kylie Rogers.

Coming from a Black List script by Brad Desch, the film opens in Italy on October 1st, Japan on October 3rd, with no U.S. distributor just yet. Guess they’re waiting for Toronto.

Movies like this usually have some god-awful trailers, especially if they’re designed for the Asian market, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the movie’s no good.

Jake Davis, a Pulitzer-winning novelist, finds himself fighting against the world when a fatal car accident leaves him to raise his 5-year-old daughter, Katie, all on his own. Overcome with guilt from the loss of his wife, he struggles with the daily routine of raising a child compounded by his overbearing relatives intent on taking her away from him. As the narrative weaves back and forth between the 1980s, and present day, we come to learn how 30-year-old Katie battles the demons that stemmed from her troubled childhood and simultaneously watch how Jake fights to hold on to the thing he loves most — his daughter, at the cost of his fortune, sanity, and ultimately even his own life.
