Watch: Joseph Kahn’s Gritty POWER RANGERS Short Film

On Feb. 24, producer Adi Shankar released a “bootleg short film” Power/Rangers, directed by Joseph Kahn (Torque, Detention). An R-rated, NSFW Power Rangers short disappeared from Vimeo during the day, and Kahn has suggested that it was due to pressure from Saban Entertainment, which owns the Powers Rangers copyright.

A “deboot fan film,” starring James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) as former Red Ranger/Rocky DeSantos and Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) as former Pink Ranger/Kimberly Hart, is dark as f*ck. Created just for shits and grins, this is:

“…not a pilot, not a series, not for profit, strictly for exhibition. This is a bootleg experiment not affiliated or endorsed by Saban Entertainment or Lionsgate nor is it selling any product. I claim no rights to any of the characters (don’t send me any money, not kickstarted, this film is free). This is the NSFW version.”

The YouTube version of the video is restored online and you can watch it in the player below.

I dunno…very cheesy and a little cliched. Works as a short, but probably not a feature. You can check out the “Why Bootleg The Power Rangers” video below:

The guy must be a hardcore fan of minority report.

UPDATE: Shankar has also released a six minute behind-the-scenes video of the making of this unauthorized short film, which features the cast and crew on set and in post-production, no matter how trashy they are. See for yourself.

I’d rather share the good news of the real reboot in development and when exactly they are going to shoot it. Hope this will let Saban spill the beans on the real film.
