Watch the First Full-Length Trailer for ‘Panfilov’s Twenty Eight’

The Russian Military Drama

Gaijin Entertainment has released the first official trailer for Panfilov’s Twenty Eight, the Russian military drama produced by Libyan Palette Studios together with War Thunder (a World War II-inspired massively multiplayer online combat game).

The Andrei Shalopy‘s film about a group of soldiers from the Red Army’s 316th Rifle Division that took part in the defense of Moscow during World War II was funded by crowdfunding as well as a grant from the Ministry of Culture of Russia.

According to a widespread version of the event, 28 soldiers accomplished a feat during the fierce four-hour battle in mid-November 1941, destroying 18 enemy tanks. Panfilov’s Twenty Eight will be released next year, to mark 75th anniversary of the battle of Moscow.

The trailer shows the 316th Rifle Division fight against Wehrmacht’s tank army. “Nobody plays the hero! No need for this…We keep on calmly burning them tanks one at a time,” says one of the Soviet officers at the end of the trailer. Watch below.

The film is visually stunning. I have a good feeling about this – no “mihalkovschiny” and “bondarchukizma.”
