Watch: The First Teaser for Nikolay Khomeriki’s ‘Icebreaker’

Russian Disaster Film

The first teaser for a brand new disaster film Icebreaker (Ledokol) hits the Web. It’s a biographical disaster drama directed by Russian filmmaker Nikolay Khomeriki (Rita’s Last Fairy Tale) and written by Alexey Onishchenko, Andrey Zolotarev and Vasily Solovyev.

The film is about the spring 1985 incident in which the cargo vessel “Mikhail Somov” became caught in heavy ice of the Amundsen Sea, Antarctica, until they were finally rescued by the icebreaker “Mikhail Gromov” in July 1985.

Peter Fedorov, Sergey Puskepalis, Anna Mikhalkova, Olga Smirnova, Vitaly Hayev, Alexander Yatsenko and Alexander Pal are among the cast. Produced by Igor Tolstunov (Profit), the film is set for release in Russia on October 6, 2016.

The story is based on the real events of 1985. The team of a Russian polar icebreaker “Mikhail Gromov” discovered a giant iceberg. The ship came into collision while attempting to weather an iceberg and forced drift with ice along the Amundsen Sea coast.

The crew of “Gromov” spent 133 days of polar night trying to find a way out of ice trap. They have no right to make mistakes. One wrong maneuver, and the vessel was crushed up.
