Greta Gerwig’s Directorial Debut

A24 has released the first trailer for actress Greta Gerwig’s solo outing as director, Lady Bird, starring two-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan.

The relationship comedy tells the semi-autobiographical story of Christine, a rebellious student at a conservative Catholic Sacramento high school who goes by the titular nickname. She wants to leave the town behind and move to the East Coast.

Laurie Metcalf co-stars as her eccentric nurse mother. Lady Bird premiered on Sept. 3 at the Telluride Film Festival and will next stop at the Toronto International Film Festival. It opens in theaters Nov. 10. Check out the first trailer below for the film also starring Lucas Hedges, Tracy Letts, Timothée Chalamet, and Beanie Feldstein.

Greta Gerwig’s Directorial Debut

Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) fights against but is exactly like her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom (Laurie Metcalf), a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father (Tracy Letts) loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.
