Weekend Box Office: ANT-MAN Wins TRAINWREK With $58M

Weekend’s Top 10

Marvel’s Ant-Man topped the U.S. box office this weekend with second-lowest opening for a Studios movie, while Amy Schumer‘s female-fueled Trainwreck also had a strong impact on theaters, opening with $30.2 million.

Only The Incredible Hulk (distributed by Universal) opened lower ($55.4 million). Wow, is this the beginning of the end for Marvel? Two underperformers in one summer…Well, I’m not so sure. Director Peyton Reed‘s movie, budgeted at $130 million took in $56.4 million abroad.

Meanwhile, Minions dropped 56.6% this weekend from its $115.7 million opening weekend, taking in $50.2 million, and coming in second, between our two newcomers.

Pixar’s Inside Out placed No. 4 in is fifth weekend, and Universal’s blockbuster Jurassic World rounded out the top five in its sixth outing with $11.4 million for a domestic total of $611.1 million and crossed the $900 million mark at the international box office.
