Weekend Box Office: AVENGERS Wins Again, HOT PURSUIT Bombs

The Avengers sequel remained in first place over its sophomore frame with an estimated $77.2 million, despite the 60-percent drop this Mother’s Day weekend. Marvel’s Ultron has now made $874.9 million worldwide.

The Reese WitherspoonSofia Vergara crime caper Hot Pursuit came in a very distant second place with a disappointing $13.3 million from 3,004 theaters. The film received a terrible reviews and a C+ CinemaScore from audiences and will have to show a little overseas muscle to profit.

Rounding out the top five was The Age of Adeline with $5.6 million in its third weekend, Furious 7 with $5.3 million (close to hitting $1.5 billion globally), followed by the comedy sequel Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 with $5.2 million.
