Weekend Box Office: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Soars to $50M Launch

Fox's Music Biopic

20th Century Fox’s Bohemian Rhapsody is a box-office champion, soaring past expectations to become the second-best opening for a music biopic ever, behind 2015’s Straight Outta Compton ($60.2 million). Starring Rami Malek as iconic front man Freddie Mercury, the film earned $50 million in its first three days.

Disney’s live-action fantasy The Nutcracker and the Four Realms opened in second place with a disappointing $20 million, the lowest opening for the studio in 2018.

Tyler Perry’s R-rated comedy Nobody’s Fool, starring Tiffany Haddish and Whoopi Goldberg, opened in third place with an estimated $14 million, one of the lowest openings of Perry’s career.
