Weekend Box Office: ‘Jumanji’ Three-Peats, ’12 Strong’ is No. 2

Sony Pictures’ Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle tops box office for a third-straight weekend, beating out new releases 12 Strong and Den of Thieves with $20 million.

Warner Bros./Alcon’s release led by Chris Hemsworth and Michael Shannon took second place with $16.5 million. The military drama about Afghanistan horse soldiers received an A CinemaScore from audiences and has moderate reviews from critics.

STXfilms’ heist flick Den of Thieves debuted at No. 3 with an estimated $15.3 million. The film features Gerard Butler and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. It received a B+ CinemaScore.

Roadside Attractions and LD Entertainment’s Forever My Girl also opened over the weekend, albeit in far fewer theaters. The film placed No. 10 with an estimated $4.7 million. The Bethany Ashton Wolf-directed romance, rated PG, stars Alex Roe and Jessica Rothe. It was panned by critics but won over audiences with an A CinemaScore.
