Weekend Box Office: ‘Logan’ Dominates with $85 Million

Fox's Latest Marvel Mutant Movie

20th Century Fox’s latest Marvel mutant movie Logan carved up $85.3 million over the weekend, proving that blockbusters were no longer limited to the holiday season.

The R-Rated final Wolverine film featuring Hugh Jackman passed The Lego Batman Movie for the best opening weekend of 2017. The film added another $152.5 million abroad, for the global estimated total of $237 million.  The superhero spinoff received a strong “A-” CinemaScore.

Jordan Peele’s horror film Get Out dropped to second place with $26.1 million in its second weekend, down just 22% from its opening.

Lionsgate’s faith-based drama The Shack opened in third place with $16.1 million over the weekend and received an “A” CinemaScore. The film cost $26 million to make and still placed above Lego Batman‘s $11.6 take in fourth place.

Open Road’s Before I Fall rounded out the top five with $4.9 million. The young adult movie, starring Zoey Deutch and directed by Ry RussoYoung, was made on a shoestring $5 million budget. Deutch is an actress to look out for in the future, she was great in Before I Fall.

10. La La Land — $2.9 million ($145.6 mil.)
