Weekend Box Office: SIN CITY 2 Bombs, GUARDIANS Tops

Oh man, not even Eva Green’s awesome boobs could save Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The Sin City sequel gets off to a disastrous start at the box office as it took in just $6.47 million, only 32% of its tracking number.

After ceding top slot to Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for two weeks, Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy moved back up into first place with a fourth weekend take of $17.6 million.

The Michael Bay-produced revamp of Ninja Turtles slipped into the #2 position with $16.8 million, which pushed the Chloe Grace Mortez-starrer If I Stay down to #3. The young adult drama did the best of the three new movies with just an $11 million budget.

The weekend’s other new release, the Jim Caviezel fact-based football drama When the Game Stands Tall opened in fifth place with $9.1 million.

Lacking comedic competition, pseudo-police comedy Let’s Be Cops took a surprisingly small drop ( only a 40%), and earned another $11 million for $45.2 million overall.

Next weekend sees the release of Pierce Brosnan’s The November Man and the horror adventure As Above, So Below going wide with Jennifer Aniston’s new caper film Life of Crime and Ari Folman’s psychedelic The Congress coming in theaters for limited release, which means next weekend we’ll probably be talking about all the same titles over again.
