Weekend Box Office: ‘Solo’ Sinks to $29.3 Million in Its Second Week
Disney and Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story continued to lose altitude in its second weekend. The space saga added an estimated $29.3 million, down 65 percent from last weekend, for a cumulative total of $148.9 million domestically, which is well-short of the Star Wars prequels.
In second place, 20th Century Fox‘s Deadpool 2 grossed an estimated $23.3 million to bring its domestic haul to $254.6 million.
Opening in third place is STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment’s Adrift. Shailene Woodley-Sam Claflin’s lost-at-sea drama was the highest-grossing newcomer with $11.5 million. Directed by Baltasar Kormakur, the PG-13 movie was produced for $35 million and earned a B CinemaScore.
Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Infinity War brought in another $10.4 million this weekend. Rounding out the top five, Paramount’s Book Club added $6.8 million to its total.
BH Tilt’s Upgrade, the low budget futuristic action film from director Leigh Whannell opened with $4.5 million at No. 6.
Paramount’s R-rated Action Point, a raucous comedy starring Johnny Knoxville, eked out just $2.3 million from 2,032 theaters. The film earned a C+ Cinemascore.
