The $40 million comedy even beat Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in Australia. The sequel to the Spider-Man reboot was the big winner internationally, where it is opening ahead of its May 2 North American launch.

TriStar’s Christian film Heaven is for Real held the third place position with $13.8 million after opening in the same slot last weekend behind leaders Captain America 2 and 3D animated family film Rio 2, which drifted down to fourth place with $13.7 million.

Relativity Media’s action crime drama Brick Mansions, the late Paul Walker‘s second-to-last film before Fast & Furious 7, was No. 5 with $9.6 million.
