Weekend Box Office: ‘The Predator’ Takes Top Spot with $24 Million

The Action-Packed Film

20th Century Fox‘s The Predator debuted with an estimated $24 million in ticket sales this weekend. Directed by Shane Black, the latest entry in the action-packed film series about extraterrestrial big-game hunters currently sits with a weak C+ CinemaScore.

Warner Bros. Pictures‘ The Nun earned about $18 million in its sophomore weekend, which was still enough to earn the studio the No. 2 spot.

Lionsgate’s neo-noir comedy A Simple Favor, with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, debuted in third place, bringing in $16 million for its first weekend of release. The film received a B+ CinemaScore from audiences.

Sony and Studio 8’s crime drama White Boy Rick, which features Matthew McConaughey, opened in fourth place with an estimated total of $8.8 million.

Meanwhile, Crazy Rich Asians rounded out the top five at the box office, adding another $8.7 million to its domestically haul.

The final opener, Pure Flix’s faith-based Unbroken: Path to Redemption barely cracked the top 10 with $2.2 million from 1,620 locations.
