Weekend Box Office: THINK LIKE A MAN TOO Tops at Slower Weekend

The ensemble comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too takes top spot on slower summer weekend, edging another Sony comedy sequel, 22 Jump Street, which dropped to second place with $29 million. Great job, Sony!

I have no doubt World Cup is taking a bite out of the box office and Think Like a Man Too is all but guaranteed to be profitable (earned just a 23% approval rating from critics). However, the debut cements star Kevin Hart‘s position as the summer’s most bankable comedian. Man took the top spot with $30 million.

Clint Eastwood’s musical adaptation Jersey Boys is the other new release, meeting most of its modest expectations for a fourth place with just $13.5 million in 2,905 theaters, behind the animated sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2 with $25.3 million and just ahead of Angelina Jolie‘s Maleficent that captured fifth with $13 million.

Next week, Transformers: Age of Extinction will try to give the summer its first mega-hit. The last film in the Transformers series, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, opened with $97.8 million in June of 2011. Can Age of Extinction do it? Apparently Transformers 4 is already rolling.
