Weekend Box Office: ‘Wonder Woman’ Repeats No. 1; ‘The Mummy’ Opens Huge Worldwide

Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s Wonder Woman took home top honors in its second week at the domestic box office with an impressive $57.2 million, a spectacular 45% drop in ticket sales.

Universal Pictures’ The Mummy grossed just $32.2 million from 4,035 theaters in North America, but the Tom Cruise-led project performed as expected overseas, earning over $141.8 million from 63 territories, which is Cruise’s biggest worldwide opening weekend ever. Also starring Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe, the Alex Kurtzman-directed film received a B- CinemaScore from audiences.

As for the rest of the weekend box office, DreamWorks Animation’s Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie finished third ($12.3 million), Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales finished fourth ($10.7 million), and Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 finished fifth ($6.2 million).

A24’s horror movie It Comes at Night, starring Joel Edgerton, Riley Keough, Christopher Abbott, and Carmen Ejogo, sold a modest $6 million in tickets in its debut and received a CinemaScore of just D from audiences.

Bleecker Street’s Kate Mara war drama Megan Leavey debuted with a mere $3.7 million despite it scored an impressive A CinemaScore.
