Weekend Box Office: ‘Zootopia’ Detrhones ‘Deadpool’ as No.1 Movie

The reign of Fox’s Deadpool has finally ended after three weeks at number one. Disney’s animated comedy Zootopia easily took first place over the weekend with a huge $73.7 million debut, the biggest opening ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Gerard Butler‘s R-rated action sequel London Has Fallen debuted in second place with $21.7 million, followed by Deadpool, slipping to No. 3 with $16.4 million and Paramount’s Tina Fey wartime dramedy Whiskey Tango Foxtrot debuting in fourth place with $7.6 million. The other big-budget Butler movie currently in theaters, Gods of Egypt rounded out the top five with $5 million.

In other action, Spotlight brought in a healthy $1.8 million after adding 542 screens following its best picture win, while Broad Green debuted Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups in four theaters where it earned $56,688. Here’s this weekend’s top ten:

Next weekend, 10 Cloverfield Lane will lead the charge in over 3,200 theaters along with The Brothers Grimsby in over 2,000 theaters, Focus’ The Young Messiah in 1,600 theaters and the Lionsgate release of The Perfect Match in around 850 theaters.
