William Fichtner Joins INDEPENDENCE DAY Sequel

Independence Day Sequel

Roland Emmerich‘s Independence Day sequel is currently filming in New Mexico, but the cast keeps growing with William Fichtner signing on for a lead role.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actor has been cast as a top general in the alien invasion sequel, a role that will expand in the two planned sequels. (Luckily, the term “Cinematic Universe” has not been mentioned this time.)

The follow-up to the 1996 film will also see the return of franchise veterans Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner as well as a cast of franchise newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Travis Tope, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei and Sela Ward.

Independence Day 2 comes to theaters June 24th, 2016, just in time for the actual Independence Day, and almost exactly 20 years after the opening of the original film, which opened on July 3, 1996 and earned$817.4 million worldwide.
