Woody Harrelson Officially Cast in the Young Han Solo Movie
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of the upcoming young Han Solo film, confirmed on the official Star Wars site that Woody Harrelson is joining the ensemble of the Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (Not final title) film, following reports last week that Lucasfilm and Disney definitively moved on from Christian Bale for the role of Solo’s mentor.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with an artist with as much depth and range as Woody,” they said. “His ability to find both humor and pathos, often in the same role, is truly unique. He is also very good at ping pong.”
The Star Wars spinoff is set to star Hail, Caesar!‘s Alden Ehrenreich as the younger version of Harrison Ford’s iconic character, as well as Atlanta star/creator Donald Glover as young Lando Calrissian and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke in an unspecified role.
The movie will focus on the early days of Han Solo’s adventures with Chewie and Lando, several years before he encountered Luke Skywalker and joined the galactic Rebellion. It’s scheduled for release in 2018 with filming set to begin next month.
