Zendaya’s Role in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Reportedly Revealed

Spider-Man: Homecoming Cast

The Wrap is claiming that Disney Channel actress Zendaya will be playing none other than long-time Spider-Man love interest Mary Jane Watson in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The star of the Disney Channel series “Shake It Up!” was cast back in March to play a “key role” as a character named Michelle. As long as they give her reddish hair, cool with me.

For those who aren’t familiar with the character, Mary Jane Watson was first introduced in 1966’s “Amazing Spider-Man” #42, as part of Stan Lee and John Romita’s famed run on the series. Mary Jane was famously brought to life in three of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films between 2002 and 2007 by actress Kirsten Dunst. The character wasn’t included in the Amazing Spider-Man reboot, though.

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ high-profile reboot of the superhero franchise is directed by Jon Watts, and stars Tom Holland in the title role, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, and Michael Keaton as the Vulture, one of several villains who will appear in the film, which will focus on a John Hughes-esque Peter Parker in high school.

Sony's High-Profile Reboot

Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for release on July 7, 2017 and also stars Bokeem Woodbine, Donald Glover, Hannibal Buress, Abraham Attah, Martin Starr, Tony Revolori, Michael Barbieri, and Angourie Rice.
