Zombieland 2 Coming Back to Life with New Writer

The Zombieland sequel is reportedly coming back to life with director Ruben Fleischer definitely back on board. But the original writers of the 2009 zom-com, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, were replaced by Dave Callaham, coming off a story credit on this summer’s hit Godzilla.

The screenwriter of the Doom film also did a production rewrite on Marvel’s Ant-Man.

Reese and Wernick have moved on to Deadpool and G.I. Joe Retaliation, but that’s not the point. Fleischer will be overseeing Callaham’s script and is expected to direct. He doesn’t have a deal yet. The plan is to bring back some of the original cast, too.

However, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Zombieland 2 featured a mostly new cast. Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse EIsenberg, Bill Murray and Abigail Breslin are really busy right now. But if Callaham’s script is really good, things could be moving very quickly.

As you may remember, Amazon Studios wanted to turn a popular zombie comedy film into a TV series. The show mercifully never made it past the pilot stage. Strange but true, the half-hour pilot was not particularly well written despite the fact that its creators were Reese and Wernick.

Do your think there’s still room for Zombieland 2?
